PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) ist ein Programm zur Verschlüsselung von Daten. Mit diesem Verfahren können Sie Ihre E-Mails über ein so genanntes Public-Key-Verfahren sicher übermitteln. In diesem Verfahren gibt es ein eindeutig zugeordnetes Schlüsselpaar.

Das asymmetrische Verfahren nutzt einen öffentlichen Schlüssel, mit dem jeder Daten für den Empfänger verschlüsseln und dessen Signaturen prüfen kann, und einen privaten geheimen Schlüssel, den nur der Empfänger besitzt.

Nachrichten an einen Empfänger werden mit dessen öffentlichem Schlüssel verschlüsselt und können dann ausschließlich mittels des privaten Schlüssels entschlüsselt werden.
